Gateway.io is a project of humbly.com. We also started park.io. Gateway.io allows you to buy domains on new TLDs which have been created with the handshake project. It is an improved version of DNS built for the new internet.
Handshake is DNS built on a blockchain. It is outside of ICANN. You can resolve handshake domains with NextDNS or other options. You can read more about handshake here.
EPP is the standard protocol used for the provisioning and management of Internet domain names. It is used to manage most of the domains on the internet including all .com domains, .org domains, .io domains, etc... We are the first registrar to use EPP to manage and sell domains on handshake TLDs.
Currently you can register .txt and .xp, but we plan to add others in the near future.
The top 1000 npm project names were reserved for their owners. You can find more information about claiming your .js domain here.
The TLDs are secured on the handshake blockchain. We have partnered with namebase.io to provide custody and security of ownership keys. The EPP registry is run by a team with experience running the .io registry for nearly a decade.
